Mash-ups are usually associated with underground record shops, bootleg white-labels and mixtapes changing hands between those in the know.

Now, EMI has decided to change all of that and after a clearance process of biblical proportions, bring these explosions of creativity, and massive cut-up tracks to the masses - legally.

This is the first fully legal mash-up album of it's kind, and features amongst others: Madonna vs A Taste Of Honey, Blondie vs The Doors, David Bowie vs Liberty X, Malcolm McLaren vs Franz Ferdinand, and Duran Duran vs Kelis all battling it out.

Music Week-Tastemaker Tips: Go Home Productions / MASHED (EMI)
This man's talent beggars belief. He is unquestionably the king of mash-ups and the emperor of bastard pop
and this album will take the genre to a new level.
It's the record Richard X should have made but never did, but the results are even more dazzling.

DMC Update Review: COMPILATION OF THE WEEK VARIOUS ARTISTS: MASHED (EMI)
The Mash-Up craze really got hold of clubbers quite a few years back, aided by XFM’s “The Remix” show and Rough Trade’s “Bastard Pop” section. Well now EMI have contacted the people involved, and are set to release 14 cuts all above board, some have already been hits, but most on this Mark Vidler comp, are seeing the light of day legally for the very first time.
From the opening “Franz Buffalo” which marries Malcolm Mclaren with Franz Ferdinand, you know that “Mashed” is gonna be a fun packed ride. Other highlights include “David X” -David Bowie Vs Liberty X, “Passenger Fever” - Peggy Lee Vs Iggy Pop, “Can’t Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head” - Kylie Minogue Vs New Order, “Rapture Riders” - Blondie Vs The Doors & “Sing Back Connection” - Elastica Vs Moloko.
“Mashed” is the most essential compilation release in a long while, let’s hope it’s the first of many, coz there’s loads of these bastardo offsprings out there, and they deserve to be heard.
